    About Playadito Yerba Mate
This 1 lb (500g) bag of Playadito is great for starting with a traditional yerba mate and has a huge following in Argentina. You'll get 12 to 13 servings of yerba from this bag.

Playadito Yerba Mate Traditional is an Argentine yerba mate known for its smooth yet complex taste. Created by Colonia Liebig, Playadito Yerba Mate Traditional is a high-quality yerba with a characteristic “mellow” flavor that’s perfect for any occasion.

    Characteristics
Playadito Yerba Mate Traditional is a beginner-friendly yerba with a classic Argentine cut. It’s con palo (with stems). This mix has both large stems and leaves, which gives its flavor some woody notes. It doesn’t contain a lot of dust, which means this yerba mate isn’t very bitter. You can expect a gentle taste that’s subtly sweet.

This is the 500g (1 lb) Playadito bag size. Buy 2 or 3 of these monthly, and you are good to go.

Recommend for: I'd recommend this to a mid-level yerba drinker who has passed the initial yerba initiation and is ready for some additional bitterness. Playadito is also a great choice for your first mate. Some drinkers describe this yerba mate as “mellow.” It’s one of those classic yerba mates you can’t go wrong with.

    Added Flavors
As the Traditional variety from Playadito, this yerba mate has no special added flavors. It’s a classic taste with some sweet hints. If you want to drink mate in the late afternoon, Playadito is a good choice because it’s soothing and not too strong.

    More about Playadito Yerba Mate

Playadito is an Argentine yerba mate brand based in Colonia Liebig within the Corrientes province. This brand falls under the umbrella of the Cooperative of Colonia Liebig, an organization that produces several kinds of goods. Here, they take care of the full yerba mate process, including harvesting and packaging. The Cooperative offers six different yerba mate varieties, including Traditional, Despalada (Without Stems), Hierbas, Liebig Original, Tereré and Yemaype. In total, they produce 18 million kilos of yerba a year, all of which undergoes an aging process of at least 12 months.

The Cooperative was officially founded on December 19, 1926 by a group of German, Ukrainian and Polish immigrants. The story goes that the town of Colonia Liebig was established by Germans, who were soon joined by other immigrants in Argentina who shared their work ethic. The first Cooperative President was Walter Orstermann, but today it’s led by Ricardo Daniel. Since the early days, the Cooperative has grown to include honey, livestock, rice and mate.

According to their statistics, the Cooperative of Colonia Liebig has 130 member producers and 225 direct employees. In this small town, they provide the main source of employment. The grounds include yerba mate fields and production plants, including 7 dryers. In this way, they produce the popular Playadito yerba mate that’s known for its mellow yet classic flavor. In particular, their bestselling Traditional variety is a favorite with yerba mate enthusiasts.

The Cooperative of Colonia Liebig is a part of the Yerba Mate Route, an NGO that tracks key spots related to yerba mate in Argentina. They’re a big-name in Corrientes and you can even visit them. They’re open to the public, so you can see their historic room and industrial process, as well as taste their products. Check out their location from Monday-Friday starting at 8:00 a.m.

The stainless steel makes the mate very simple to maintain. Just give it a rinse under the sink or put it in the dishwasher to clean

When does the yerba mate expire? All the yerba we ship has at least 12 months of shelf life before it expires.

How long will this last me? If you drink one mate per day (about 40g of yerba), 500g of yerba will last you about 12 and a half days and 1000g is about 25 days. My method is to plan for 2 bags of 1kg yerba per month.

How much caffeine is in yerba mate? About 80mg of caffeine per cup however the amount varies based on whether you are drinking using traditional or mate cocido prep methods.

Where should I store yerba mate?
Store in a dark, dry, and cool location like inside a cabinet.

How do I keep the yerba mate fresh?
After the bag is opened, you can either store the yerba in a sealable container or use a rubber band to keep the bag closed. Check out our yerberas and dispensers for optimal storage!
