Canarias Traditional Yerba Mate

World-Class Energy and Performance
Canarias Traditional is one of the most recognized yerba mate brands in the world. It's a favorite among elite athletes and professional soccer players who rely on its bold, lasting energy.

Uruguayan-Style Yerba Mate
This is a fine-cut, stemless (sin palo) yerba mate known for its strength and higher caffeine content. It delivers a thicker, richer brew compared to Argentine-style yerbas.

Crafted for Experienced Drinkers
Ideal for seasoned mate drinkers with a higher caffeine tolerance. The dense cut requires more technique during preparation but rewards with an intense, long-lasting flavor.

Iconic Taste and Packaging
Packed in the signature yellow Canarias bag, this yerba mate represents consistency, heritage, and the deeply rooted tradition of Uruguay’s daily mate culture.

Ingredients & Sourcing
Grown in Brazil and blended for the Uruguayan market. This sin palo yerba mate contains approximately 90% fine-cut leaves and 10% powder with no stems. Naturally gluten-free and free from added flavors.

Weight & Servings
Each bag contains 1.1 lbs (500g) of yerba mate, yielding about 12.5 servings (based on 40g per gourd).

Flavor Profile
Bold, earthy, and slightly bitter with a creamy texture. Designed for strength and depth, this mate provides a dense brew that’s energizing and satisfying.

Package Info
Packaged weight: 1 lb 1 oz. Dimensions: 4.0 in x 2.75 in x 6.2 in. Traditional paper-style bag. Store in a cool, dry place.

Yerba Mate FAQs

When does yerba mate expire?
All the yerba we ship has at least 12 months of shelf life before it expires.

How long will a bag of yerba mate last me?
If you drink one mate per day (about 35g of yerba), here’s how long each size will last:

  • 1lb of yerba (450 to 500g): 13-14 days
  • 2lbs of yerba (900-1000g): About 28 days
My personal method? I plan for 2 bags of 1lb yerba per month.

How much caffeine is in yerba mate?
Yerba mate contains approximately 80mg of caffeine per cup, though this can vary depending on how you prepare it. Traditional methods typically yield higher caffeine content compared to mate cocido (tea bag or French press style).

Where should I store yerba mate?
Store your yerba mate in a dark, dry, and cool location, like a kitchen cabinet or pantry.

How do I keep yerba mate fresh?

  • If you're using a Yerba Crew resealable bag, simply close the seal to keep your yerba fresh.
  • If you have a non-resealable bag, store the yerba in a sealable container or use a rubber band to keep it closed.
  • For the best long-term freshness, check out our yerberas and dispensers designed for optimal storage!

Loving iy

"I just got my second shipment (arrived in 3 days!) My first yerba mate I tried was Canarias . I wanted something stronger and this was wonderful. Ordered more but also Playadito , milder , I like it , but as a new drinker I prefer Canarias. You guys are great."

"A good product, it does take some time to get used~ at first a strong bitter and smokey flavor really slaps you in the face. But, it's one of those teas that you have to simmer with another chance (actually multiple) to build that palate to see what hides beneath all that — the nice smooth and almost refreshing taste makes you see that this is a diamond in the rough!"

Great brand, has a good kick!

"I've been drinking Canarias for quite a while now, and it's been one of my favorites when I need that kick for the day. If you are sensitive to caffeine, I don’t recommend this, as it does give you that punch. Which can be good or bad depending on the person. I really like the 500g option as it is smaller than the 1kg, so I can easily take it with me during travels. (The Canarias Serena is a good option to try as well, as it is a bit more mellow compared to the traditional one. ) Ok… so here is where the stars got deducted. This is the first time I purchased from the Yerba crew, and I am pretty disappointed with how it was packaged. I ordered a couple of the Canarias along with another brand, and all were put in a bigger box with no padding at all. When I opened the box, it was covered with yerba and its dust, as one of the Canarias bags had a rip due to getting wacked around. It was such a mess to clean, and a waste. It immediately reminded me of the way Amazon does it, as they just throw it in a box with no padding or anything, and once it arrives, it's ripped. (which is why I stopped buying Yerba there). I really like what this company is doing and the options they offer, but it really needs to package its products better."
