The Yerba Crew Bariloche White Ceramic Gourd

The Bariloche White is part of our Budapest-crafted ceramic series. Each one is completely handmade from clay to final form by a small artist studio run by Ildikó and her partner. These pieces have their own personality, shaped on a wheel with care and tradition. They’re practical, beautiful, and offer a slightly European interpretation of the Argentine mate ritual.

Handmade from Earth and Fire
Each Bariloche gourd is wheel-thrown, trimmed, bisque-fired, glazed, and then fired again in a high-temperature kiln. The white glaze is inspired by the snowy peaks of Bariloche, with a natural clay base left partially exposed for warmth and contrast.

Why “Bariloche”?
This name was chosen for the snowy white glaze and calm, clean shape that reflects Argentina’s Bariloche region. Known for its lakes, forests, and snowcapped mountains, it's the perfect symbol of peaceful, scenic mate sessions.

The Bariloche White Gourd
Each gourd is handcrafted from food-safe, vitrified stoneware clay (ISO 6486 certified). It holds approximately 9 to 11 oz of liquid depending on the individual shape. The glaze and form may vary slightly, making each gourd one of a kind. High-temperature firing ensures it is dishwasher-safe and waterproof.

The Yerba Crew Bombilla
Made from stainless steel and measuring 6.1 inches (155 mm), the bombilla pairs perfectly with the Bariloche gourd and filters yerba smoothly.

The Yerba Crew Bombilla Cleaner
Crafted from stainless steel and nylon. At 7 inches (178 mm) in length, it helps you clean inside your bombilla during regular maintenance.

The Gourd Sleeve
A removable cotton sleeve is included for use when brewing with hot water. It adds comfort by keeping your hands cool while holding the gourd.

Will my gourd look exactly like the picture?
The quick answer is “mostly”. We aim to keep the gourds about 85% consistent with the design but the handmade nature of the production allows for color and shape variations. Each gourd is unique and one of a kind.

How do I wash ceramic mate gourds?
For long-term usage, it is best to hand wash ceramic mates. Machine washing will not destroy the mates but it may cause the colors to fade over time.

Are ceramic gourds fragile?
These stoneware mates are strong but they are still made of clay and will most likely chip, crack, or break if dropped more than a few feet from the ground.
