At a Glance

Yesterday I had the opportunity to appear on Positively Philly on PHL17 to introduce yerba mate to a local TV audience. The segment included a live preparation demo, a tasting of our Salta Sunrise cold brew, and an invitation to upcoming Yerba Crew mateadas in Philadelphia.

The Opportunity

A few days ago, I crossed a huge milestone, both personally and professionally. I had the opportunity to step into the kitchen at Positively Philly on PHL17 here in Philadelphia to introduce yerba mate to their TV audience.

For many viewers, this was likely their first time hearing about yerba mate, so the goal was to keep it simple, approachable, and true to the experience.

Sharing Yerba Mate on Live TV

During the segment, I gave a quick Yerba Mate 101, covering what it is and why our community connects so strongly with it.

We then walked through an expedited version of the traditional preparation process. From filling the gourd to shaking the leaves and placing the bombilla, the goal was to give a quick look into the daily ritual that so many of us share.

The hosts, Abby and Rachel, were able to try it themselves, which is always the best way to understand mate. It’s not just something you drink. It’s something you experience.

If you’re curious to try this at home, our starter kits make it easy to get started with everything you need.

Hot and Cold: Two Ways to Experience Mate

Along with the traditional hot preparation, we also introduced our Salta Sunrise cold brew.

This version blends yerba mate with hibiscus, lemon peel, and rose buds, creating a refreshing and approachable option for anyone new to mate or looking for something different.

It was a great way to show that yerba mate can fit into different routines while still staying connected to its roots.

If you’re new to yerba mate, Salta Sunrise is one of the easiest ways to start, especially as a cold brew.

Bringing the Community with Me

Going into the shoot, I had a HUGE amount of nerves. But I kept reminding myself that I’ve prepared mate thousands of times and shared it with so many people in our community.

I sipped my own mate in the morning and on the drive over to the shoot to get myself into my own steady state of mind. I felt like our community was there with me as I got to share something special with a new audience

We also had the chance to invite viewers to our upcoming mateadas, which are such a core part of what we do at Yerba Crew.

Join us at one of our upcoming mateadas in Philadelphia and learn the process firsthand.

Why Moments Like This Matter

This was a meaningful step forward, not just because it was on TV, but because it helped introduce yerba mate to more people in a simple and approachable way.

That has always been the goal. Share the experience, make it accessible, and let people decide how it fits into their lives.

The entire Positively Philly team made the experience incredibly welcoming and seamless from start to finish. They truly embody the positivity they promote, and I’m grateful they gave me the opportunity to share yerba mate with their audience.

Looking Ahead

I really appreciate all the support and feedback over the years. We have more events coming up around Philadelphia, especially as the weather warms up, and we will continue finding ways to bring people together through mate.

Thanks for being part of it.
